Sometimes certain health conditions open our awareness to the importance of a balanced lifestyle. Regular medical checkups, exercise and a healthy nutrition are essential to maintain and protect our bodies. Next to all of these we should not forget that there are more ways we can assist our body in the healing process.
This article is about KidneyReflexologyFoot Massage, an old traditional form of healing. This practice has been known throughout the ancient China and Egypt, dating far back as 4,000 B.C.
In the Traditional Chinese Medicine the Kidney Reflexology point is one of the most important, as it affects your overall health. The kidneys hold our life force energy and are named ”Root of Life” by traditional practitioners.
What is Reflexology?
Reflexology is a massage therapy based on the belief that there are certain points on feet, hands and head, which are linked to every part of our body. The word Reflex is an instinctive movement based on a particular stimulation. Reflexology understands that our feet and hand are mirror images of our entire body, laid out as a map.
Reflexology Foot Massage
The most popular form of Reflexology is the massaging of the feet. By pressing the individual pressure points of our body organs, we create an automated stimulation. However powerful Reflexology is, it is not advised to only base any form of treatment on Reflexology. This is an additional way to help the process of healing.
Many internal diseases such as Liver disease, Kidney disease, Heart disease, or really any other form of internal diseases, are known to respond well on this massage technique.
Kidney Reflexology
Here is a great image from the Modern Institute of Reflexology showing the Kidney Meridian through the entire body.
Basics of Kidney Reflexology Massage
- Before you start with the actual massage of the kidney pressure point, massage the ankles first. You will want to loosen up all the nerves running towards the feet.
- Feet are known to be very sensitive and easily ticklish. When massaging particular areas, make sure you press firmly but gently. The tickling sensation can activate the nervous system and counteract with the therapy.
- You can use any forms of oils or cremes to make the massage more enjoyable.
- Use your thumbs to apply the pressure, support the massage with the rest of your fingers. Rub with your thumbs up and down and massage in small circles.
- Massages should be repeated regularly until first improvements are noticed. It might take some time and highly depends on the individual.
!! Do not massage the Kidney point whilst pregnancy. The point Kidney-1 is responsible for inducing labor and sits just right beside the general Kidney pressure point. !!
Where to find the Kidney pressure point
The Kidney pressure point is located in the center of the sole (see image below). This point is also stimulated to reduce dizziness, headaches or insomnia. In addition the same pressure point is beneficial for fertility and longevity. There is a Reflexology Kidney point on each foot, other than with the heart, which is only represented in the left foot.
Reflexology Research
Many belief that Reflexology is just a waste of time and not helpful to the individuals healing process. However, there are many studies that prove the entire opposite. Reflexology Research is an institute specialized in the research of the affects of Reflexology under certain health conditions. Especially in areas of pain relief, relaxation, increased blood flow (which is beneficial for kidneys and liver), mental health, complementary cancer care etc., has shown a great improvement.
